Abstract：Objective:To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of 120W green laser transurethral resection of the prostate with the"reverse Chinese character '8' "technique in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Methods:We treated 63 patients with obstructive benign prostatic hyperplasia using a 120W green laser with the "reverse Chinese character '8' " technique.Mean operative time,bladder irrigation time,catheter time,surgical complications,wound healing time were measured and the following variables were assessed before and after operation:IPSS,QOL,residual urine volume and maximum urinary flow rate. Results:Mean operative time was (45.7±5.9) min, bladder irrigation time was (10.0±1.2) h, catheter time was (2.0±0.5) d, wound healing time was all within 3 months.No severe complications occurred during perioperative period.Before and after operation,IPSS and QOL decreased from (26.0±1.9) and (6.0±0.6) to (9.6±1.6) and (2.7±0.5), maximum urinary flow rate increase from (6.9±1.7) mL/s to (16.8±4.4) mL/s,residual urine volume decreased from (163.7±19.9) mL to (20.1±9.6) mL.All results showed significant differences (P<0.05). Conclusions:Green laser transurethral resection of the prostate with the "reverse Chinese character '8' " technique was inferior to photoselective vaporization (PVP),has the advantages of high efficiency, obtaining specimens, short operation time,and was a safe and effective minimally invasive treatment for BPH (especially for large volume prostate).
