Abstract:Objective: To investigate the clinical effect of rod-shape balloon dilation catheter in the treatment of male urethral stricture. Methods: Thirty-six cases of male urethral stricture were divided into two groups on the basis of stenotic segment size: 17 cases in short group (stenosis ≤1 cm) and 19 cases in long group (stenosis >1 cm). The stenotic segment was cut open by cryo-scalpel of urethral endoscope, and then the rod-shape balloon dilation catheter was applied to the stenosis section. Results: All of the operations were performed successfully, and no serious complications occurred. The cure rate of short group was 100% (17/17), and that of long group was 73.7%(14/19), with the difference being statistically significant (P<0.05). The average follow-up time was 15 months. The short group was superior to the long group in Qmax and recurrence. Conclusions: The clinical effect of rod-shape balloon dilation catheter in the treatment of male urethral stricture is better, especially for those patients whose stenotic segment size is no more than 1 cm.
