Abstract:Objective:To investigate the clinical effect of holmium laser lithotripsy combined with balloon dilatation in the treatment of male urethral stricture. Methods:150 cases of male patients with urethral stricture were selected between January 2013 and December 2015, and randomly divided into the combined group (transurethral incision by holmium laser combined with balloon dilatation therapy) and the control group (holmium laser urethrotomy alone) by Excel 2007 (n=75 in each group). Surgical results were compared between the two groups. Results:The operation time, bleeding volume and hospitalization costs were significantly increased in the combined group as compared with those in the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in hospital stay between two groups (P>0.05). Before and 1 month after operation, there was no significant difference in the Qmax, IPSS and residual urine volume between the two groups (P>0.05). At 3rd and 6th month after operation, the Qmaxwas higher (P<0.05) and IPSS score was lower in the combined group than in the control group (P<0.05). At 6th month after surgery, the clinical effect of the combined group was more satisfactory than that in the control group ( P<0.05). Conclusions:The effect of holmium: YAG laser lithotripsy combined with balloon dilatation in the treatment of male urethral stricture under the ureteroscopy is superior to that of holmium laser alone.
