Abstract:Objective:To study the efficacy and safety of 1 470 nm diode laser for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Methods:A total of 87 patients underwent vaporization of the prostate using 1 470 nm diode laser. The mean operative time, blood loss, the international prostate symptom score (IPSS), the score of life quality, bladder residual urine volume, flow rate and indwelling catheterization time were recorded and analyzed. Results:All procedures were successfully performed by one operation. The operation time was (72±31) min, and blood loss (23±11) mL. No case needed blood transfusion, and there was no TURP-related syndrome. The mean indwelling catheterization time was (35±20) h. Eighty-seven cases were followed up for 3 to 12 months. The IPSS was decreased from preoperative (27.3±2.4) to (5.8±1.6). The QOL was decreased from preoperative (4.8±1.1) to (1.7±0.4). The maximum flow rate was increased from preoperative (6.3±3.2) mL/s to (19.8±2.1) mL/s. The residual urine volume was decreased from preoperative (86.7±139.5) mL to (29.3±5.1) mL. All the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusions:1 470 nm diode laser is safe, efficacious and minimally invasive for the patients of BPH.
