Abstract：To discuss the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid-like follicular carcinoma of the kidney. Methods: The clinical data of manifestations, diagnosis, surgical approaches, pathology and prognosis of 5 patients with thyroid-like follicular carcinoma of the kidney treated from January 2009 to August 2015 were analyzed retrospectively. Results: The mean age of all patients at diagnosis was 39 years-old (20-55 years), including 1 male and 4 females. All tumors were localized unilaterally with 3 in the left side and 2 in the right side. The B-ultrasound examinations showed strong echo, and the CT scan showed different degrees of enhancement. The average maximum diameter of tumors was 3.2 cm. The clinical TNM stage of 4 patients was T1N0M0, and that of one case was T1N1M0. All of the 5 patients received nephrectomy successfully. Three patients underwent radical nephrectomy and two patients received nephron sparing surgery. All patients were followed up with a mean duration of 49 months, and no local recurrence was found. Conclusions: Thyroid-like follicular carcinoma of the kidney is a rare subtype of renal cell carcinoma with infrequent recurrence and favorable prognosis. Imaging tests play an important role in the early diagnosis of thyroid-like follicular carcinoma of the kidney, while the final diagnosis relies on the pathological examination. Surgery is the preferred treatment for it.
