Abstract:Objective:To study the changes of serum amylase after laparoscopic urological surgery and analyze the underlying mechanisms.Methods:Thirty-six cases, including 25 males and 11 females, received laparoscopic surgery of retroperitoneal organs such as the adrenal glands, the kidney, and the ureter through retroperitoneal route. Twenty-three cases received operation on the left side and 13 cases on the right. Changes of the serum amylase were compared between pre-operation and post-operation.Results:The pre-operative serum amylase levels were normal in all cases. The increasing post-operative serum amylase were observed in 7 case which ranges between 0.9-291.7 U/L. All the 7 cases, including 5 males and 2 femals, reveived retroperitoneal aparoscopic surgery on the left side. No pancreatitis occurred in thes patients with clinical manifestations and signs and no special treatment were needed. The serum amylase were back to normal after 3 days post-operation.Conclusions:Serum amylase may increased transiently with no more than 300 U/L after retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery of the left side, and do not need special treatment.
