Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of robot assisted simple prostatectomy (RASP) in the treatment of large volume (>80 mL) benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). Methods: From April 2017 to April 2018, 12 patients with large volume BPH undergoing RASP were retrospectively reviewed. Operation time, blood loss, catheterization time, drainage time, post-operative hospital stay, complications and follow-up data were documented and analyzed. Results: All operations were successfully performed. The mean operation time was (158.5±28.2) min, estimated blood loss was (147.5±57.5) mL. Catheterization time was (5.6±0.9) days, drainage time was (4.3±1.0) days, and post-operative hospital stay was (6.3±0.6) days. One patient needed transfusion during operation. No complications occurred. Qmax, PVR, IPSS and QOL at 3rd month post-operation were significantly improved compared to those pre-operation. Conclusions: RASP is a safe and efficient procedure for treatment of large volume BPH.
