Abstract:Objective: To introduce a multimodel training program for laparoscopic partial nephrectomy including simulator, animal model and operative training and to evaluate its safety, feasibility and efficacy. Methods: Five resident doctors with or without laparoscopic surgery experience were enrolled to receive the similator, animal model and operative training for partial nephrectomy. The training data including operative time, operative number and perioperative indicators were collected and evaluated. Results: All the 5 trainees successfully received all the training programs and indepedently completed 4 to 6 laparoscopic partial nephrectomies. There were no conversions to open surgery, no transfusion or death. The average warm ischemia time was 29.8, 30.8, 29.7, 32.3 and 30.0 min, respectively and the average operative time was 109.2, 104.8, 115.7, 112.8 and 112.6 min, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference among the 5 trainees with regard to operative time, estimated blood loss, postoperative hospital stay or perioperative complications. Conclusions: The present multimodel training program for laparoscopic partial nephrectomy is safe, feasible and efficacious, which is suitable for young doctors without laparoscopic surgery experience or partial nephrectomy experience.
