Abstract:Objective: To explore the safety and efficacy of transurethral columnar balloon dilation of prostate (TUCBDP) under ultrasound guidance for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Methods: The clinical data and follow-up data of 179 cases of BPH were retrospectively analyzed in our hospital between February 2013 and December 2016. Fifty cases of BPH were treated by TUCBDP, 54 cases of BPH were treated by TUCBDP under ultrasound guidance, and 75 cases of BPH were treated by transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). Results: The operations in all groups were successfully performed. The operating time in TUCBDP group and TUCBDP under ultrasound guidance group was (14.6±3.1) min and (15.1±3.6) min respectively, which was shorter than that in TURP group [(54.0±9.8) min]. The intraoperative blood loss in TUCBDP group and TUCBDP under ultrasound guidance group was (24.2±4.8) and (26.0±5.2) mL respectively, which was less than that in TURP group [(140.5±27.4) mL]. There was no significant difference in the length of hospital stay among the three groups. Twelve months later, the international prostate symptom score (IPSS), maximum urinary flow rate and residual urine volume in the three groups were improved significantly as compared with those preoperation (P<0.05). The incidence of urinary incontinence after TUCBDP under ultrasound guidance was lower than that after TUCBDP. Conclusions: TUCBDP under ultrasound guidance was safe and efficient in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, the operation time was shorter, and the incidence of complications was lower. It had equal curative effect compared with TURP. It was suitable for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia.
