Abstract:Objective: To investigate the clinical value of single-J tube indwelling after flexible ureteroscope lithotripsy. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 105 patients undergoing flexible ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy for kidney stones (1-2 cm) from Aug. 2018 to Nov. 2019 in PLA General Hospital. The patients were divided into the single J tube group (52 cases) and the double J tube group (53 cases). All patients underwent ureteral dilatation with double J tube before 2 weeks of surgery. Complications, calculus clearance rate, SF-36 score and medical expenses between two groups were compared. Results: The incidence of bladder irritative symptoms, gross hematuria and urinary tract infection in the single J tube group was significantly lower than that in the double J tube group (P < 0.05), but there was no significant difference in the incidence of renal colic between the two groups (P > 0.05). The calculi clearance rates in the single J tube group at 2nd and 4th week after operation were significantly higher than in the double J tube group, and there were no significant difference between two groups at 8th week. After discharge, the total medical expenses of single J tube group were significantly less than those of double J tube group (P < 0.05), whereas significantly higher SF-36 scores were revealed in single J tube group than in double J tube group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: For patients with a less than 2 cm size stone who had undergone ureteral dilatation before surgery, indwelled single J tube after flexible ureteroscopy lithotripsy can effectively reduce complications, improve the calculus clearance rate, and reduce medical expenses.
