Abstract:Objective: To investigate the efficacy of S.T.O.N.E. nephrolithometry scoring system in predicting stone clearance rate and complications after percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Methods: 146 eligible patients who underwent percutaneous nephrolithomy were scored according to S.T.O.N.E. nephrolithometry scoring system. The postoprative stone clearance rate and complcations were counted. The correlations between the S.T.O.N.E. nephrolithometry scoring system and stone clearance rate as well as complication rate were analyzed. Results: The stone clearance rate was 73.97% in 146 patients. The S.T.O.N.E. score in no residual stone and residual stone groups was (7.78±1.35) and (9.03±1.30) respectively, with the difference being statistically significant between the two groups (P<0.001). There was significant difference in S and N scores between two groups (P<0.001). There was no significant difference in T, O and E scores between two groups (P>0.05). However, there were significant differences in tract length (T) and obstruction levels (O) between two groups (P<0.05). Complications occurred in 50 patients. The S.T.O.N.E. score in no complication and complications groups was (8.09±1.41) and (8.12±1.51) respectively, with no significant differene (P=0.917). Conclusions: The S.T.O.N.E. nephrolithometry scoring system can predict effectively the stone clearance rate. The S and N scores have the higher predictive value, but the T and O scores conceal the difference in tract length and obstruction levels between two groups. The value in predicting complications according to S.T.O.N.E. nephrolithometry scoring system is limited.
