Abstract:Objective:In our study, we assessed the feasibility of applying scrotoscopy in the early diagnosis of testicular torsion.Methods:From February 2009 to June 2011, 8 patients with acute scrotum underwent scrotoscopy examination. A F7 semi-rigid ureteroscope or a F10 pediatric cystoscope was employed as scrotoscope.Results:The scrotoscope had a diagnostic accuracy of 100%. No complication was observed in these patients. All patients were followed up for 6 months. 5 patients with epididymitis were cured by intravenous antibiotics and the blood flow of the testis was normal in the testis-preserving patient.Conclusions:Our study proves that scrotoscopy is safe, feasible, accurate and effective in the early diagnosis of testicular torsion.
