Comparative analysis of transurethral green laser photoselective vaporization vs. holmium laser enucleation of the prostate in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia

Abstract:Objective:To compare the efficacy of transurethral green laser photoselective vaporization (PVP) vs. holmium laser enucleation (HoLEP) of the prostate for prostatic hyperplasia. Methods:286 patients in PVP group and 132 patients in HoLEP group were hospitalized from May 2013 to June 2017 in our urology clinic department. Pre-operation general conditions, data of the operations and post-operation indexes including Qmax, post-void residual (PVR), IPSS were compared between two groups. Results:There were no significant differences in pre-operation conditions between two groups (P>0.05). The mean operation time in HoLEP group was significantly longer than in PVP group (P=0.032). There was no significant difference in blood loss during operation, bladder irrigation time, catheterization time and post-operation hospitalization time between two groups (P>0.05). After operation, the Qmax, PVR and IPSS were significantly improved compared to pre-operation. But there was no significant difference regardomg these indexes between two groups after operation. Conclusions:Both PVP and HoLEP are safe and efficacious, which deserves promotion and clinical application.
