Abstract:Laparoscopic radical cystectomy (LRC) or robotic-assisted radical cystectomy (RRC) has become a standard procedure at many laparoscopic centers worldwide. A detailed review of LRC or RRC with intracorporeal urinary diversion from electronic databases MEDLINE/PubMed literature was performed from 1992 onward. More and more recent studies favored the intracorporeal creation of the urinary diversion after LRC or RRC. Worldwide experience continues to accumulate with over 173 cases already having been performed. LRC or RRC with intracorporeal urinary diversion is evolving for the reconstructive procedures necessary for urinary diversion. LRC or RRC with intracorporeal urinary diversion is feasible with reproducible results. It appears to offer patients all the advantages of minimally invasive surgeries with respect to postoperative quick recovery. Long-term oncological and functional outcome data is necessary to determine its proper role for the patients with bladder cancer.
