Ureteroscopy-assisted open pyelolithotomy for complex renal calculi (Report of 16 cases)

Abstract：Objective:To explore the clinical value of ureteroscopy in open pyelolithotomy for the treatment of complex renal calculi. Methods:From November 2009 to August 2013, a total of 16 patients with complex renal calculi were treated with open pyelolithotomy under the assistance of ureteroscopy. Results:All cases were successfully operated without major complications. The calculi were completely removed in 14 cases after the operation. The residual calculi in the other 2 patients were fragmented and finally discharged by ESWL. Conclusions:In view that ureteroscopy-assisted open pyelolithotomy in treating complex renal calculi has the advantages of small trauma, less hemorrhage and complications, maximally protecting renal function and higher stone-free rate, it deserves popularization and application in basic level hospital.
