Abstract:Objective: To investigate the effect of repeat transurethral resection for non muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Methods: All 62 cases of non muscle-invasive bladder cancer were divided into 2 groups: 30 in experimental group treated with second resection after the first transurethral resection 4 weeks later; the control group (n=32) given single transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) in the same period. All patients were treated with pirarubicin bladder irrigation after the TURBT in the two groups. Tumor recurrence rate and progression rate were observed. Results: Tumor recurred in 8 patients in the experimental group and 19 in the control group during the follow-up period of two years. There was a significant reduction in the recurrence rate in the experimental grooup compared with the control group. There was no significant difference in progression rate between the two group (10% vs. 21.9%, P>0.05). Conclusions: Second transurethral resection reduces the recurrence rate, but did not reduce the risk of tumor progression in non muscle-invasive bladder cancer.
