Diagnosis and treatment of renal oncocytoma of 11 cases and literature review

Abstract：objective： To summarize the experience in diagnosis and treatment of 11 cases of renal oncocytoma. Methods： The clinical data of 11 cases of renal oncocytoma confirmed surgically and pathologically were analyzed retrospectively. The literatures about this disease were reviewed. Results： Two patients were treated with radical nephrectomy. Partial nephrectomy was performed on the rest 9 cases. Pathologically, the diagnosis of renal oncocytoma was made after surgery. After a median follow-up period of 26 months (7 to 60 months), there was no recurrence or metastasis from oncocytoma. Conclusion： Renal oncocytoma is a rare benign tumor, and difficult to differentiate from renal cancer with asymptomatic symptom and image examination. The diagnosis can be established on radiological imaging techniques, renal mass biopsy and immunohistochemistry.
