Abstract:Objective: To study the clinical features, management and prognosis of prostatic leiomyoma of a single case report. Methods: A single case of prostatic leiomyoma was reported. A 39-year-old patient who was admitted to our hospital complained of progressively voiding difficulty for two months and couldn't urinate voluntarily for 15 days. A possible diagnosis of abscess was given by urinary ultrasound. MRI of the prostate revealed a mass with abnormal signal in prostate. The cystoscopy showed irregular prostatic hyperplasia. A diagnostic transurethral resection of prostate was successfully performed under CSEA on March 18th, 2013. A literature review of prostatic leiomyoma was then conducted. Results: Gross pathologic examination showed offwhite and grayed resected tissues. The histopathological examination revealed these tissues consisted of short-spindle tumor cells, which were strongly positive for Vimentin, Caldesmon, and positive for Desmin and SMA. A diagnosis of poorly differentiated prostatic leiomyoma was then determined. Conclusions: Prostatic leiomyoma is a rare neoplasm, and its pathogenesis isn't still clarified. It is difficult to make a clinical diagnosis, so the anatomopathological examination and immunohistochemical staining are the only medium to reach the definitive diagnosis of leiomyoma. Although surgery combined with radiotherapy and chemotherapy is the main method of therapy for prostatic leiomyoma, there is a poor prognosis because of the progressive process of the disease.
