Abstract:Objective: To explore the value of interventional therapy as an initial treatment for ureteral obstruction-induced renal insufficiency caused by pelvic tumor or pelvic radiotherapy. Methods: Thirty-two patients with ureteral obstruction were subjected to interventional therapy, the stricture ureter was dilated and the guide wire was put by antegrade or retrograde method. The postoperative urinary volume and complications were observed. Results: The double J tubes were put successfully in 32 cases. No serious complications occurred. All cases were drained smoothly, urinary volume increased significantly, and renal faction improved with creatinine recovered in 2 to 5 days. Conclusions: Interventional therapy is a simple and useful initial method for ureteral obstruction-induced renal insufficiency, and can be regarded as a treatment method for the cases who were inoperable.
