Effects of laparoscopic radical prostatectomy and open surgery on sex hormone and sexual function in patients with Prostatic cancer

Abstract:Objective: To compared the effects of laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP) and open radical prostatectomy (ORP) and the influences on sex hormone and sexual function in patients with prostatic cancer. Methods: 00 patients with prostatic cancer were randomly divided into LRP group and ORP group, with 100 cases in each group. LRP group received laparoscopic radical prostatectomy and ORP group received open radical prostatectomy. The perioperative indexes and complications were compared between two groups. The levels of sex hormones and sexual function before and after operation were observed. Results: The operation time of LRP group was significantly longer than ORP group, but the blood loss, intestinal function recovery time, hospitalization time and postoperative VAS score were all lower than ORP group (P<0.05). Compared with preoperative, serum testosterone (T) level was significantly decreased, and serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) levels were significantly increased in two groups (P<0.05). After operation, there was no significant difference in the levels of sex hormones between two groups (P>0.05). The IIEF-5 score of LRP group was higher than ORP group, and the IPSS score was lower than ORP group after operation (P<0.05). The total incidence of postoperative complications in LRP group was significantly lower than ORP group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Compared with ORP, LRP surgery can effectively regulate the body sex hormone levels, protect sexual function and has higher safety.
