Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the technique, advantage, efficacy and safety of ureteroscopic incision and drainage using holmium∶YAG laser for treatment of parapelvic cysts. Methods:We reviewed data of analyzed 21 patients treated with ureteroscopic incision and drainage using holmium∶YAG laser between March 2008 and July 2012. Among the patients, 16 patients were male and 5 patients were female, ranging in age from 36 to 66 years old, an average age of 51 years old. The average cyst diameter was 5.5 cm (range: 4.8-6.5).Results:All cases were operated successfully with no conversions to open surgery. The average time of operation was 40 mins (range: 30-50). The estimated blood loss during operation was 5 to 20 ml. The average of admission day was 4 days (range: 3-5). After follow-up of 3-36 months, only one patient had recurrence after 3 years, the others were alive with no evidence of recurrence. Conclusions:Ureteroscopic incision and drainage using holmium∶YAG laser for treatment of parapelvic cysts is a safe, effective and minimally invasive surgery, which has significant advantage and good effects for the treatment of parapelvic cysts.
