Abstract:Objective: To explore the safety and clinical efficacy of laparoscopic radical cystectomy following radioactive seed implantation for prostate cancer. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data of a patient with muscle-invasive bladder cancer after radioactive seed implantation for prostate cancer. The patient underwent laparoscopic radical cystectomy and ileal conduit in Dongzhimen Hospital affiliated to Beijing University of Chinese Medicine on June 2015. By reviewing relevant literature, the effects of radioactive seed implantation on the occurrence and progression of bladder cancer, the operation of radical cystectomy as well as the choice of urinary diversion were analyzed. Results: Serious adhesion around the prostate was found during the operation. The radical cystectomy was performed by combining retrograde and anterograde approaches via laparoscopy, and the ileal conduit was used as the choice of urinary diversion. There were no early complications such as rectal injury, urine leakage and intestinal obstruction. No tumor recurrence and ureteral ileal anastomotic stenosis were observed during the follow-up periods of 5.5 years. Conclusion: Laparoscopic radical cystectomy with ileal conduit can be chosen as one of the safe and effective surgical methods for patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer following radioactive seed implantation for prostate cancer.
